SySDSoft Announces Availability of Release 2 Licensable MAC-Layer for WiMAX Mobile Stations

March 29, 2007, Cairo, EG. SySDSoft, a leading provider of embedded software for the wireless broadband market, announced the completion of Release 2 of the 802.16e mobile station (MS) medium access control (MAC) solution. This release supports advanced features such as Sleep Mode, Idle Mode, and Security Sublayer.  The release also supports UGS, eRTPS, IPv6 classification, CQICH, Fast Tracking, Fast Ranging, among many advanced features.

The SySDSoft MAC has a scalable quality-of-service-aware scheduler supporting all services defined in the IEEE 802.16e standard: UGS, eRTPS, RTPS, NRTPS, and Best Effort. The scheduler has been tested to guarantee isolation of classes in normal operation and overload conditions.

With this release, the SySDSoft mobile WiMAX MAC is offering a solution complying with the WiMAX Forum Wave 2 recommendations. The release has been thoroughly tested to achieve compliance with the WiMAX/ETSI protocol conformance testing specifications. The MAC has been ported and tested on ARM9 and Intel XScale processors with Linux Kernel 2.6.

SySDSoft offers its WiMAX Wave 2 compliant MAC IP to chip manufacturers and OEMs/ODMs wishing to integrate an enhanced mobility WiMAX MS MAC into their portable device applications. The solution is based on an upfront licensing model, with pricing subject to volumes and customization requirements. A reference design kit and technical support are immediately available to companies wishing to incorporate a WiMAX MAC solution into their integrated system-on-chip (SoC) or to port it onto their dedicated hardware.

Release 3 scheduled for Q2 2007 will comprise additional features such as MIMO, HARQ, MBS, and extending the classification sublayer to include ROHC/ERCTP.
